The Best Bike Covers

The Best Bike Covers

A good bike is a major investment, and protective bike covers are a perfect way to safeguard your new wheels. Dirt, moisture, and the elements can wreak havoc on the metal parts and fine gears of your bike, so it's important that your cover is strong, durable, and convenient, especially if you need to take it along with you. Whether you're a mountain biker, a beach cruiser, a competitive racer, or just someone who enjoys a ride in the sunshine, we've found just the right bike cover for your needs.

YardStash Waterproof Outdoor Bike Cover

We've Got You Covered

For those occasions when there's no garage, no patio cover, and nothing but the elements, this waterproof cover won't disappoint.
Best For Outdoors

Of course, all bike covers are made for the outdoors and designed to protect your bike from the elements, but not all waterproof bike covers are created equal, as YardStash’s waterproof bike cover demonstrates. The polyester fabric protects from rain, snow, and hail and provides full coverage from the top of the handlebars to the bottom of the tires. Air vents along the top help keep moisture out while not allowing precipitation to seep through, and best of all, the drawstring along the bottom tightens to cover your bike wheels completely, providing 100% protection.

Pros:

  • Ultra-high UV protection
  • Lined with safety-reflection strips
  • Windproof buckles

Cons:

  • No lock hole
  • Not for roof-mount travel

Frequently Asked Questions

Are bike covers lockable? I don’t want anyone stealing my cover.
Yes, though it depends on the design. Most bike covers have two O-rings near the front so that you can push a bike lock through both rings and the tire. We’ve also heard of cyclists who attach mini GPS tracking devices to their bike, the cover, or both. The other logic behind this is that a thief may pull up with a truck and steal your bike with the cover still attached.

After a few days in the rain, my cover smells moldy. What do I do?
There are a couple of ways to solve this problem. Our favorite is to wait until the next sunny day, then lay out your cover as flat as possible, perhaps even weighing the corners down so that it stays flat. Then, spray it with a disinfectant cleaner to kill the mold without contributing to the problem like soap and water might. Finally, let the sun do the rest — the heat will dry it out, kill the remaining mold, and eliminate the odor.

I forgot to put on my cover and left my bike in the rain. How harmful is that?
Well, we certainly don’t advise it — otherwise, we wouldn’t be writing about the best bike covers. That said, here’s some easy cleanup you can do to assure your bike will be okay. First, wipe it all down with a towel, making sure to get the moisture off all the parts — it’s the tiny drops in the tiny parts that cause the most problems. Then get yourself a can of WD-40 and spray the chain and the gears, but don’t spray brakes and tires. If you find any corrosion, spray that as well, allow it to sit for a while, then wipe it off. WD-40 works great for removing rust and corrosion.
