The Best Pegboard Accessories

The Best Pegboard Accessories

If you love to optimize the storage space in your home or garage, then you might already be a big fan of pegboards. Pegboard is a wood or aluminum hardboard with pre-drilled holes strong enough to support almost any household item. Pegboards on garage walls, for example, provide an excellent way to organize and your tools in arm's reach. But a pegboard is only as useful as the accessories you use with it. Without the proper hooks, bins, handles, and clips, all you've got is a board with holes in it. If you've been wondering how to optimize your pegboard for your kitchen, garage, craft room, or kids' room, look no further: we've found some of the best pegboard accessories on the market.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a trick to securing a pegboard to the wall?

Actually, yes, there is. You need to make sure there’s at least a ½” gap between the pegboard and the wall, or else the hooks won’t go into the pegboard holes. A simple way to do this is with “furring strips,” which are ½” strips of wood that go in the corners between your pegboard and the wall. Secure your wood screw through the pegboard and strip and into the wall.

Is it possible to secure a pegboard to drywall?

Yes, it is. First, make sure you either have spacers or furring strips to create the proper gap between the pegboard and the wall. Use drywall screws if you’re not drilling into the studs. That said, if you’re using a pegboard to hang a lot of heavy tools in the garage, you should try to secure your pegboard directly to the wall studs.

I’m considering a pegboard made of particleboard. Will it be strong enough?

Many pegboards made of particleboard, when properly installed, can hold up to 100 lbs. So unless you’re storing a lot of heavy tools, particleboard is fine for most home applications.
