You can, in fact, wash ribbons – as long as it’s handwashing, that is. For longevity’s sake, it’s best to hand wash and hang dry. Because washing tends to leave them wrinkled once dry, you may have to iron them before using them. Don’t worry, ironing ribbons is a common practice, and shouldn’t cause any harm to the material. Additionally, there are some ribbons that may fray once washed. If this is the case, you can finish the ends of each ribbon to protect them from further fraying.

How do you keep ribbons from fraying?

Ribbons are known for fraying or separating at the edges. To keep them around longer, cut the ends at a diagonal. If this is not quite enough to keep the ends from coming apart, you can add a little extra protection by applying heat and then either put glue or clear nail polish on the edges to really keep the ends of the fabric sealed in.
